Blue Sky Relief began forming in 2010 unbeknownst to its creator. Shanna Dickerson had just begun her travel agency and despite working in some of the most beautiful areas in the world, she saw a much uglier truth. Animals in the Caribbean were vastly neglected and mistreated. Local animal shelters could not keep up with the numbers of dogs and cats brought in each day.
She began her grassroots movement saving the animals she came across. With proper nurturing and veterinary care, she saved countless dogs including Rico, who’s heartwarming tale is chronicled in Rescued By Rico, available for purchase on the home page.
Each year she expanded her efforts to save the lives of these animals that never fail to fill our hearts. First she began donating to animal shelters, then extended opportunities for her clients to donate, adopt, or take animals in need back to their respective home countries. She even began chartering planes to relieve island animal shelters of overcrowding and transport the animals to U.S shelters with more space and prospective adopters.
Now, the next step to achieve global impact is the Blue Sky Relief Foundation. Shanna Dickerson is working directly with government officials of Caribbean Islands to change the culture regarding animal treatment and create permanent solutions. Blue Sky Relief needs your help to achieve this mission.
